FAQS

Do I need to be strong, flexible, or have previous dance experience?

Absolutely not! Our beginner classes cater to individuals without any prior dance experience, offering a welcoming entry point into the captivating world of pole dancing. As you embark on your pole journey, you'll witness tangible improvements in both strength and flexibility. Each class incorporates essential elements of conditioning and stretching, ensuring a holistic approach to your physical development.

What do I wear to a pole class?

For optimal pole dancing performance, we advise choosing attire that allows unrestricted movement and leaves your lower legs exposed for essential skin contact with the pole. It's advisable to refrain from applying moisturizer on your hands or legs on the day of your class to ensure a secure grip.

At La Diabla Pole Studio, we embrace diversity, encouraging students to wear whatever makes them feel comfortable. Whether you prefer gym attire with bare feet, lingerie paired with platform heels, or specialized pole clothing, the choice is entirely yours. For those unsure of where to begin, bike shorts and a singlet are perfectly suitable.

In classes involving floorwork and choreography, we recommend knee pads, as these sessions often involve a significant amount of movement on the floor. As you progress through the levels and encounter more advanced moves, increased skin contact with the pole may be required. If you're in need of guidance on where to purchase suitable clothing and equipment, don't hesitate to consult with your instructor for personalized recommendations.

I want to buy heels! What should I get for my first pair?

We highly recommend investing in a reputable pole shoe brand such as Pleaser or Hella Heels. As a special perk, students at La Diabla Pole Studio enjoy a generous 10% discount at High Heels in Darlinghurst, a store that proudly stocks these trusted brands. When selecting your first pair of heels, consider the following criteria:

  • Heel Height: Opt for a pair no higher than 7 inches to ensure a comfortable and manageable experience, especially for beginners.

  • Ankle Support: Choose shoes with wide straps to provide extra support to your ankles, enhancing stability during your pole sessions.

  • Material: Opt for shiny PVC material, as it adheres well to the pole surface. Avoid suede or fluffy materials, as they may not provide the necessary grip for pole dancing maneuvers.

By adhering to these guidelines, you'll not only enhance your pole dancing experience but also ensure that your choice of heels aligns with both comfort and functionality.

I'm part of the LGBTQIA+ community... can I still come to your classes?

Of course! La Diabla Pole Studio welcomes sinners of all kinds.

I'm neurodivergent / have a sensory processing condition... what sights, sounds, smells and feels will I encounter during class?

During class you may encounter the following:

  • Sights - The studio features a dimly lit red interior with dynamic, colorful lights that flash and change, creating a vibrant atmosphere.

  • Sounds - our classes include loud music. You are welcome to wear ear plugs if reduced volume improves your experience.

  • Smells - We use a mixture of methylated spirits and water for pole cleaning, emitting a mild chemical smell. At times, we utilize an oil diffuser to infuse the studio with a fresh, clean scent.

  • Feels - Direct skin-to-pole contact is crucial for grip, offering a tactile experience as the brass pole presses against your skin. Certain pole moves involve gripping with knees, elbows, and other body parts, which may lead to bruising. To aid in grip, we provide products for those moments when you get sweaty. The studio floor, made of smooth timber, offers a firm feel underfoot. Crash mats, covered in a thick synthetic material, are available for added protection.

  • Artificial smoke - Occasionally, we use an artificial smoke machine for added ambiance during classes or performances. It produces large puffs of artificial smoke, creating a hazy look. The machine emits a hissing sound and a sharp, sweet smell. If you are sensitive to artificial smoke, please inform us so we can accommodate your needs.

If you ever feel overwhelmed during class and need a moment of quiet, we have a separate room at the back of the studio. It features a comfortable couch, providing a serene space for you to take a break and regroup.
